The Turin / Piedmont corridor

Moving to Turin / Piedmont
— what we know about it

Turin is Italy's historic industrial capital and the Piedmont regional centre. UK corporate moves into Turin focus on automotive (Stellantis/FCA Italian operations), aerospace (Avio Aero, Leonardo), and the established Turin food and chocolate industry. The city's grid-pattern grand-boulevard layout makes Turin one of the easier-access Italian destinations — wider streets, less ZTL constraint than Florence or Rome, modern apartment stock in most central districts.

Turin's housing stock divides into the elegant 19th-century Turinese centre (the area around Piazza San Carlo, Piazza Castello, Via Roma — substantially listed but with reasonable lorry access through the wider boulevards), the modern post-war suburbs (Mirafiori south, Lingotto industrial-conversion district, the Falchera and Vallette outskirts), and the hill-side residential (Crocetta, Borgo Po, Cavoretto on the hillside east of the river). The Lingotto former-Fiat-factory area has been substantially gentrified into modernist housing.

The Piedmont wine country — the Langhe (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alba), the Roero, the Monferrato — has hosted UK households for decades. Established British communities in the rural hills around Alba and La Morra; substantial wine-trade UK families with second homes in the area. The destination logistics are similar to rural Tuscany — narrow village lanes, sometimes unsealed final stretches, comune courtesy calls.

The Susa Valley and the alpine western corner (Bardonecchia, Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx) is the ski-resort area and is logistically similar to other Italian alpine destinations — winter access is challenging, April-October scheduling preferred. The southern Piedmont (Cuneo, the Maritime Alps, the Cuneo wine region) is rural and quiet.
